#4 – Download VS Norton Problem

I just got through downloading new update and got a Norton message--something to the effect of a Cloud problem.   Norton software alerted that the exe program was bad and asked if I wanted to eliminate the program.  I said yes, thinking it was the shortcut they were talking about. I then went to my program list and the only programs listed was shortcut that would not work and info, but no program.   Can you re send the program to me.   Thank You.   Jimmy L. Hardenbrook

Hi Jimmy,

1) Download the 7-day trial of the Directory software form http://www.MilitaryCampgrounds.us/directory_download

2) Once installed and running, you may need to enter your registration name and registration code into the Directory software. This will remove the trial limitation.

This problem turned out to be the result of Norton's latest virus "definition" update. Norton started reporting that the Directory software contained the "Trojan.Gen" virus. This was a "false positive" detection. I submitted the Directory software to Norton for their evaluation. They quickly did an analysis of the U.S. Military Campgrounds Directory and confirmed that this is a "false positive". There is no trojan or virus in the Directory software.

Here's their reply:

"Upon further analysis and investigation we have verified your submission and, as such, the detection(s) for the following file(s) will be removed from our products:

               88BBC854CA460AAFCF7ADF65B4C09F3C - US_Military_Campgrounds.exe

The updated detection(s) will be distributed in the next set of virus definitions, available via LiveUpdate or from our website at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.html"

In the meantime, when (if) Norton reports a virus in the Directory software, Norton will "quarantine" the Directory software. Youc an go into Norton and restore the Directory software from the quarantine area. In addition, you'll need to tell Norton to "exempt" this file from further detection. Please refer to your version of Norton Anto-Virus on how to restore a file from quarantine.

I apologize for this inconvienence, but I have no control over what other companies do. At least Norton responded quickly repsonded and admitted it was their error.
